Israel looks at China to drive up its foreign tourist numbers

Jerusalem (TAN): A conference titled ‘Made in China’ was held at the Dan Jerusalem Hotel here recently to attract more Chinese tourists to visit Israel. Representatives from both the Israeli and Chinese tourism industries took part in the meet.

More than four million international tourists visited Israel last year and the country is now looking at China to push up the numbers further.

Peter Phang of the tourism marketing agency BrandStory told Israel Hayom that there are provinces in China where more than 20 million people lived. Hence, the country provided immense possibilities for Israel to tap into the market.

Flights between China and Israel

Hainan Airlines, which recently started a flight between China’s Shenzhen and Tel Aviv, also operates direct flights from the Israeli city to Beijing and Shanghai.

China Eastern Airlines is also planning a direct flight to Israel, Israel Hayom added.

“Tourism from China to Israel began to rise significantly only in 2016, thanks to new direct flights to Israel that were launched from various regions in China. The capacity of passengers is huge, and many of the planes still have plenty of rooms, Roy Kriezman, an Israeli tourism ministry attaché in south China, was quoted as saying in the report.
