Kochi (TAN): The tourism department of South India’s Kerala state is planning to promote night activities in select locations.
“Though Kerala Tourism had discussed a proposal in this regard a couple of years ago, it did not take off along the expected lines. We can’t promote nightlife as in other places, but we can promote night activities which will attract more tourists to the state,” Kerala Tourism secretary Rani George said.
On its official website, the department said it hoped this plan would prove beneficial to the state’s tourism industry because these could attract tourists even during the low season. The activities – mainly cultural ones – will take place between 1800 and 2300 hours.
Plans to promote night activities in the houseboat tourism sector in Alappuzha (Alleppey) were already afoot.
Houseboats are now anchored after nightfall with no significant tourism activities. Night activities are being targeted in destinations such as Pallathuruthy and Thottappally.
