Mascot (TAN): Australia-based carrier Qantas Airways has introduced 150 special weekend fares to boost tourism in Exmouth, a resort town on Western Australia’s North West Cape, during the approaching travel season.

The special fares start from AUD 169 for one-way travel on each weekend for flights between Perth and Exmouth’s Learmonth Airport, from June 7 to September 30, 2019.

Special weekend fares are applicable from Fridays through to Mondays. They are available when flights are booked minimum 45 days in advance.

Qantas Domestic Chief Executive Officer Andrew David said: “As the national carrier, we’re proud to promote WA to travellers from around the world and in our own backyard. These fares will encourage more people to book early and explore Exmouth, one of the most idyllic destinations on the west coast.”

The airline launched the special prices in partnership with the West Australian Government.

“We’re investing in this trial to stimulate growth in the market, and we’ll be working closely with the West Australian Government and tourism operators to promote these new fares and additional seats to ensure it’s a success,” he added.

Qantas has deployed its Boeing 717 aircraft to serve the route. The aircraft, that has a capacity to carry 25 more passengers compared with the Fokker F100 aircraft presently flying the Perth-Exmouth route, will operate on Saturdays and Sundays. The Boeing 717 aircraft will offer 100 extra seats each weekend, thus meeting the growing demand from holidaymakers.

“Operating a larger aircraft during the peak season means we can bring more visitors to the region, which is a win for tourism and local businesses in Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef,” David said.
