Ruidoso, US (TAN): Tourism is vital to the economy of Ruidoso village, Lincoln County, in the US southwestern state of New Mexico. This was acknowledged in a proposal that includes a USD6.06 million increase to the tourism marketing budget.

Ruidoso, located adjacent of the Lincoln National Forest, depends largely on tourism for its economy. A large number of those spending money in the small village are visitors.

In the 2010 census, the village had a population of a little over 8,000.

Becky Brooks, executive director of the Ruidoso Valley Chamber of Commerce, told Ruidoso News: “We are thrilled to see governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and tourism cabinet secretary Jen Schroer actively working to increase tourism in New Mexico.”

She added: “Tourism is vital to our local economy, from helping to protect the businesses and jobs of many of our residents, to keeping our restaurants and shops open and to ensuring economic growth.”
