Ho Chi Minh City (TAN): In what will definitely be a boost to Vietnam travel, low-cost airline VietJet recently started operations on a new flight route from this historic city to Van Don in the northeastern part of the country.
Situated in the Quang Ninh Province, the new flight route will also serve as a direct gateway to the Unesco World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay located only 50km away, and approximately a 60-minute ride from the newly opened Van Don International Airport.
Thousands come to this spectacularly beautiful bay from around to world to experience a Halong Bay cruise. The bay is famous for its ocean karst topography.

Passengers on the first flight, which received a water canon salute, were greeted with gifts and garlands.
Flights operate on the Ho Chi Minh City-Van Don route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with a flight time of approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes per leg. The flight departs from Ho Chi Minh City at 0700 hours and arrives in Van Don at 0915. The return flight takes off from Van Don at 0950am and lands in Ho Chi Minh City at 1205.
Vietjet now flies on 39 domestic routes and 66 international routes.
The airline now operates 60 A320 and A321 aircraft with more than 385 flights daily covering destinations across Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, mainland China, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia.
