(TAN): France-based hospitality company Club Med has brought its first-ever luxury collection resort to the Americas, with the opening of Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda in Dominican Republic.

It opened as a 93-acre resort on a beach in Michès, the first major site to open within the region. The tourism sector in the region is expected to grow in near future with the recently opened highway connecting the town to Punta Cana, as per reports.

“For almost 10 years, our team searched for the perfect place in the Caribbean to introduce our very first Exclusive Collection resort in the Americas. About an hour away from our Punta Cana resort, we found Michès to be the perfect fit—it was virtually untouched and had breathtaking scenery and excursion possibilities,” Carolyne Doyon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Club Med North America was quoted by Fortune as saying.

While the resort endorses an eco-chic idea, Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda observes environmental consciousness in its daily operations as well. It refrains from using single-use plastics, and undertakes various green initiatives such as tree replanting programme and observing strict industry certifications, the company said.

Club Med arranged its rooms into four boutique villages – Archipelago, Explorer Cove, Emerald Jungle and Caribbean Paradise, each with its own theme, environment, accommodation and activities.

“The opening of Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda marks a huge milestone in Club Med’s history. This new resort embodies the strong trailblazing spirit at the heart of Club Med. We open our doors to travellers from all over the world in hopes that they too can experience what first drew us to Miches: the rich culture, the pristine and untouched beaches, the beautifully lush landscapes, and the welcoming, lively spirit that abounds in the Dominican Republic,” Carolyne Doyon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Club Med North America was quoted by Business Traveler as saying.

The resort offers four restaurants, four open-bar lounges, three wine cellars and a locally-sourced coffee house.

Prices for the rooms start at USD 227 per night per person to roughly USD 400 per night per person for a penthouse suite with an oceanfront view, reports said.
