Mussoorie set to see surge in tourists on Diwali holidays

(TAN): Following an easing of entry restrictions, the hilltown of Mussoorie is again bustling with tourists after more than six months, reported Financial Express.

A negative Covid-19 report is no longer mandatory to enter Mussoorie, known as the Queen of Hills. Consequently, the month of October has witnessed an increasing number of visitor footfalls over the extended weekend that began on October 2. With Diwali festivities being muted this year, it is anticipated that tourism to the popular destination will see a further uptick this year.

In fact, OYO’s latest travel forecast for the month of October listed Jaipur, Agra and Mussoorie as the top leisure destinations for North India. The travellers from Delhi-NCR and Gurgaon are reportedly heading out to popular tourist destinations in the hills such as Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie and Naintal. This brings considerable relief for many hotels, resorts and tourist-oriented occupations in these regions.

For hotels and restaurants in Mussoorie and Nainital, there is a clear upsurge in bookings by domestic travellers especially from nearby areas like Delhi, NCR, Gurgaon, Haryana. After months of inactivity, this festive season spells positivity for these popular destinations that were beginning to look isolated.

“Mussoorie is continuously witnessing  increment in the tourists footfall. The maximum tourists arriving are from Delhi, NCR and nearby locations. In October, we have observed 30-40% increment in the number of tourists as compared to September. Hotels and Restaurants in Mussoorie are also witnessing an upsurge in the booking of tourists and keeping in mind the festive seasons ahead, these numbers are bound to increase further,” Sandeep Sahni, President Hotel and Restaurant Association, Uttarakhand, said to the media.
