Washington, D.C. (TAN): Amtrak is set to offer more high-speed train options to weekend travellers shuttling between Boston and Washington, D.C. this summer.

The company will increase frequencies of the Acela Express train that serves the United States’ Northeast Corridor with an extra round trip on Saturdays, beginning May 4, 2019.
Amtrak President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Anderson said: “Amtrak continuously works to be responsive to customer feedback and looks for opportunities to expand our highly popular Acela Express service between Boston, New York, and Washington.”
“These additional departures aim to serve our customers’ needs as we prepare for the roll-out of our next generation Acela Express service beginning in 2021,” he added.

While regular scheduled service on the weekends will continue, train 2252 will leave from Washington, D.C. mid-morning and train 2255 will depart Boston in the early afternoon from May 4. Tickets are available for sale.
The new Acela Express fleet is scheduled to enter service in the Northeast Corridor in 2021. Currently under production at Alstom’s manufacturing plant in Hornell, New York, all the trains could be in service by the end of 2022. The new trains are expected to be more spacious with room for 386 passengers. Tickets are available for sale.
