Canada-based WestJet takes the delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft

Seattle (TAN): Boeing on Thursday delivered the first of Canada-based WestJet’s 10 Dreamliners.

With the long range 787-9 Dreamliners, the airline will now look at global expansion and operating on more international routes. WestJet has since long operated with single-aisle aircraft.

“Today’s delivery marks a new chapter for WestJet,” said Ed Sims, president and CEO of Calgary-based WestJet on Thursday. “We look forward to bringing Canadians to the world and the world to Canada in comfort and style.”

WestJet plans to operate its new Dreamliner on the Calgary-Dublin route. This will be the first direct flight between the two cities, Boeing said in a statement, adding that the airline also intends to fly its new aircraft from Calgary to London Gatwick and Paris.

WestJet’s 787-9 will accommodate 320 passengers in a three-class configuration.

“We are excited to welcome our friends at WestJet to the Dreamliner family,” said Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president of Commercial Sales & Marketing for The Boeing Company.
