San Francisco (TAN): Vacation rentals often look like a slice of paradise, what with their cosy décor and stunning locations, which leaves us wishing we could carry back a piece of furniture or artwork with us.

Beautifully decorated Airbnb listings have often inspired guests to design their own houses along the same lines, so that ‘mixing good design and the “try before you buy” mentality, these houses have sparked a new wave of Airbnb listings that are seen as livable showrooms’.

Guests can now easily take back a Nicaraguan hammock or a Mid-century sofa as a souvenir for a price.

Whitney and Carlos, Airbnb hosts of Casa Mami in California’s Pioneertown, offer furnishings and other products from twenty eco-friendly brands that is available for purchase on their online store. All they want is for their guests to use a product first and then buy it if they like it.

If you are at Robert and Katie’s refashioned 1970’s beach bungalow in New York’s Montauk, you could not just live with objects in the house, but also buy and take some of them back with you, down to the ceramic kitchenware.

Amy from Los Angeles, Califronia describes her listing as ‘colorful zen’ ‘boho-chic loft’, which she has designed with bright coloured textile and artefacts from the world over. The vibrant space is enlivening not just for living, but also for shopping for bohemian pieces.

The Garde House in Summerland, California has transformed its first floor into a store and the second floor as an apartment-showroom so that guests can pick up items that they fancy while living in the house.
