(TAN): Prince Edward County, a municipality in Canada’s southern Ontario region, has received federal government funding to support off-season tourism, reports said.

According to reports, the Canadian Experience Fund is investing CAD 300,000 (USD 223,478 approximately) in “Experience the County” tourism initiative to cover local product and service development, gateway signage, and market readiness training, so that the sustainability of year-round tourism can be enhanced and more people can be drawn to the region during off-peak or shoulder season.

Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis, while announcing the investment at Spark Box Art Studio in the County, reportedly said the goal of the funding was to “build on the winter season”.

“Right now, everybody knows the County is very busy in the spring to fall (period) and this (funding) is to build on the winter season and make that busier as well,” he was quoted by Inquinte as saying.

“It’s money that’s well needed because the County has a smaller tax base. In general, the way markers are a very expensive endeavor, so it’s great that the federal government is able to help out here,” he added.

Spark Box Studio, a local printing workshop which specialises in screen printing, letter pressing and acrylic etching, aims to attract more tourists who are interested in art workshops, reports said.

Co-owner of Spark Box Studio, Chrissy Poitras reportedly said they want to offer visitors a variety of experiences.

“We want to open our doors to people who are visiting the area and give them different experiences to engage with the area,” Poitras was quoted by Global News as saying.

“We are excited to enhance the support we can offer tourism operators with the assistance of the Canadian Experiences Fund. We look forward to strengthening our tourism products and experiences and connecting more visitors to our many year-round attractions,” Ferguson added.
