Santa Cruz, US (TAN): Cannabis retail chain KindPeoples is opening an outlet on the prominent Ocean Street in this city, located in California on the US west coast.
Selling cannabis is legal in California and with this store, the company aims to reach out to tourists.
Co-founder and CEO Khalil Moutawakkil, 34, said the local cannabis chain was looking forward to moving to Santa Cruz County’s “most prominent location for retail”.

“I know the community and the region extremely well, I was raised just a few blocks up the street, and this is the part of commerce and tourism in Santa Cruz,” Moutawakkil told the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
The store, located at 533 Ocean St., opened recently.
The new locale is aimed at allowing KindPeoples to serve not only the local community, but also to branch out to serve a new niche: The population of more than a million tourists that visit Santa Cruz annually.
“I’m most excited to bring cannabis to the forefront in a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Santa Cruz city,” Moutawakkil added.
KindPeoples has created an open retail layout where customers are given baskets for their shopping. They are able to peruse products, read labels, and get comfortable with brands before taking it up to the counter themselves.

Also excited to break into the tourist demographic is store manager Tony Davilar.
“We keep the motto of being that bridge between community and cannabis, and I feel like we still do that very well moving to an area like Ocean,” he said. “It is going to blend well; it is going to show that we still keep to our roots, staying involved in community, while trying to cater to tourism.”
