Edinburgh (TAN): Scottish travel blogger Neil Robertson will meet local business owners at at Lanarkshire’s first ever tourism industry conference next month to share his experiences and tips for using social media best.

The Travels with a Kilt blogger is part of a panel of expert to speak at the free event, which is being organised jointly by VisitScotland and Visit Lanarkshire, on March 19 at Hamilton Park Racecourse. Robertson has been travelling across the region ahead of his walk and visiting the major tourist attractions.

According to a VisitScotland statement, the speaker will use examples of his travels across Lanarkshire to show local businesses how they can learn from his social media success and how they can make best use of an online presence.

Hotel booking website Booking.com’s regional account manager will also speak at the event. VisitScotland’s industry relationship manager Lynsey Eckford will talk about how the country’s national tourism organism can help the businesses.

VisitScotland’s regional leadership director Jim Clarkson, who will also be speaking at the event, said: “This is the first time we’ve held an event like this dedicated to Lanarkshire alone, and we want to attract as many businesses from all sectors of the local industry to join us, from big hotels, attractions, tour operators and event organisers through to cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.

“The pace of change in trading online is something we all need to think about, and not everyone is an expert. We want everyone to come away with something valuable from the day,” he said.

Lanarkshire Tourism Association chairman Mark Calpin said: “This event is all about making Lanarkshire easy to buy for our visitors.” 

The free event is open to all tourism businesses across Lanarkshire.
