(TAN): A major fire has broken out at the Beirut port, a little more than a month after a major explosion at the port killed at least 170 people and rendered 300,000 homeless.

A CNN report cited a Lebanese Army statement on Twitter as saying the fire broke out at an oils and tires warehouse in the duty-free market. Efforts are on to extinguish the fire.

Videos on social media show huge plumes of black smoke.

The area close to several tourist sites and densely populated areas.

The historic Martyrs’ Square; the Gemmayzeh and Mar Mikhael neighborhoods;  the landmark Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque; and Baabda Palace, the official residence of the Lebanese President, are all located near the Beirut fire site, as are popular bars.

Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque was severely affected in the August 4 blast.
