(TAN): Florida tourist attraction Coral Castle has sued Epic Games, developer of the hit video game Fortnite, for the use of its name, media reports said.
The “Battle Royale” mode of Fortnite has a virtual world made of cities and landmarks. According to the lawsuit, Epic on August 1 added a location called “Coral Castle”.
In the game, the virtual version of Coral Castle “includes various castles, castle walls, stone objects and (statues)”, the lawsuit claims, adding that it “shares common themes with the real Coral Castle”.

As both the real Coral Castle and the virtual Coral Castle have shared marketing themes such as castles and nautical elements, “purchasers are more likely to believe that the ‘Coral Castle’ location in Fortnite: Battle Royale is authorized, approved and/or sponsored by plaintiff,” the lawsuit claims.
Coral Castle is seeking monetary damages, interest, attorneys’ fees, court costs “and such further relief as the court deems proper”.
