(TAN): The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released a video explaining why flying during COVID -19 pandemic is much safer than many think.
“You can significantly cut the risk yourself by wearing a mask, cleaning your hands and checking in online to minimise contact at the airport,” the IATA video says.
At the airport and on board the airport, there will be physical distancing where possible, and only those with no symptoms of COVID-19 will be allowed to board the aircraft. This makes flying during COVID -19 safer as compared to other modes of transport.
“The cabin, including the toilets, will be very thoroughly and frequently cleaned and disinfected,” IATA says.

“Nearly all planes today have a very sophisticated air filter system. It catches more than 99.9% particles, including bacteria and viruses like COVID,” it says. “The cabin air is also renewed with fresh air from the outside every 2–3 minutes.
This means the air inside an aircraft is as clean as a hospital operating room. Consequently, flying during COVID is much safer than one would think.
