Hue City, Vietnam (TAN): The beautiful Hue City, one among many noted tourist hotspots located in central Vietnam, is taking up a clean-up drive.
Complaints have been pouring in from tourists about harassment by street vendors and lack of space to walk on the pavements along the busy city streets.
This is the first effort of this kind, says English-language daily Viet Nam News.

Earlier this week, officials from the local government made surprise visits to several popular places around the city, including facilities along waterways and roads, to conduct checks on the safety and hygiene of the services they provide.
The team, which consisted of the People’s Committee’s deputy chairman and administrational staff from the local tourism department, visited boats at Tòa Khâm — a popular river boat station — to check on the availability of life jackets, waste dumping practices and service prices.
The People’s Committee, refers to a section of the local government included in the many-tiered structure of the communist government in power in the country.
Vietnam is a Marxist-Leninist one-party state.

Boat trips on the famed Hương River (perfumed river) in the city are popular among tourists. The natural beauty of the river and the lively scenes along its banks make these trips popular among tourists.
Boat trips include ca Hue singing, a traditional musical style of the area, conducted in the evening.
The authorities, till now, have failed to control the safety and hygiene standards on these boats.
Visitors have also complained of the overwhelming number of stands, tables and chairs on the pathways of several busy streets, forcing them to walk on the road, thus putting them at risk of being hit by passing vehicles.

Complaints also came from those who were stopped or harassed by street vendors, rickshaw drivers and shopkeepersin Hue City.
According to Viet Nam News, the People’s Committee’s deputy chairman Nguyen Dung has now asked the tourism department and the authorities in the corresponding wards to exercise tighter control over tourist hotspots and the services provided to ensure tourists in the city enjoy a pleasant experience.
