(TAN): Hyatt Hotels has opened Andaz Xiamen. Created by world-renowned designer JID, founded by the celebrated late Indonesian designer Jaya Ibrahim, Andaz Xiamen has been inspired by the city’s sobriquet as a “Garden by the Sea”.

“We are extremely excited to celebrate the opening of Andaz Xiamen and announce the introduction of the inspiring and unscripted Andaz brand experience to this beautiful garden city, which marks the debut of the second Andaz hotel in China,” said Stephen Ho, president of growth and operations for Asia Pacific, Hyatt.

Located on China’s southeast coast, more than 40% of the Xiamen city has forest landscapes. It has been awarded the “Scroll of Honor” by the United Nations Habitat and the title of “International Garden City” by the International Park and Recreation Association for its clean air, relaxed pace and pleasant living conditions.

The hotel has been conceived as a modern mansion inspired by tropical Nanyang style.  As in typical local homes, Andaz Xiamen features high ceilings, repeated arched detailing and living spaces linked by walkways open to cooling tropical breezes. The interiors of the hotel have also been designed mindfully to reinforce the Nanyang feel. All the artwork at Andaz Xiamen is by artists either from Xiamen or with a strong connection to the city.  The hotel aims to nurture local talent, offering a platform for emerging young artists.

Rather than a traditional hotel uniform, Andaz Xiamen colleagues are free to choose from the ready-to-wear collection of Wan Yifang, a designer who was born in Xiamen. The designs distinguish the associates while allowing them to express their own “Andaz”, which means “personal style” in Hindi.

Andaz Xiamen has 304 rooms, including 20 suites with separate living rooms, which enjoy vibrant views over the city. Four drinking and dining venues at Andaz Xiamen showcase the local neighborhood through authentic local flavours. Other amenities include a fitness center, a yoga room, and a heated 25-meter outdoor swimming pool. Apart from that, the hotel offers nearly 21,527 square feet (2,000 square meters) of Nanyang-inspired event space and a ballroom.

“With Andaz Xiamen, we hope to stimulate the senses with our redefined Nanyang interiors, neighbourhood-inspired experiences and luxurious hospitality,” says General Manager Owen Chiu. “Our aim is to offer a luxury lifestyle experience that’s woven into the fabric of the local culture, fueling our guests’ creativity and inspiring them to express their own unique style and passions.”
