(TAN): The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has taken over the operation, management and marketing of the luxury train ‘Golden Chariot’ from Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) through an agreement between the two bodies, reports said.
Launched in 2008 by KSTDC, the Golden Chariot was given a makeover, and will resume its services on March 22, as per reports.
The luxury train’s 6-night 7 days package trip, named ‘Pride of Karnataka’, will start from Yeshwantpur station in India’s Karnataka state, reports said. The journey will take passengers along a scenic route from Bengaluru to Bandipur National Park, Mysuru, Halebidu, Chikmaglur, Hampi, Badami Pattadakal – Aihole and Goa before going back to Bengaluru, as per reports.

Apart from March 22, the train will also make two other journeys along the same route this season on March 29 and April 12, 2020, reports said.
General Manager of IRCTC – South Zone, SS Jagannathan reportedly said the luxury train was revived as part of a 10-year contract with the Government of Karnataka.
According to reports, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railways, Ravinder Bhaskar, said IRCTC had taken over the management of the train in November 2019 and renovated its interiors to suit the needs of international customers.
While new features include updated upholstered furniture, drapery, linen, crockery, and renovated rooms and bathrooms, the train will also feature in-room entertainment, smart television with WiFi-enabled subscriptions such as Netflix, Amazon and Hotstar, reports said.

CCTV cameras and fire alarm system have reportedly been installed on the Golden Chariot. Guests will be able to choose from a menu consisting of Indian and global cuisines, and opt for spa sessions on the onboard spa, as per reports.
The cost for the package tour will include all onboard meals and homemade beverages, guided excursions in air-conditioned buses, entry fee for monuments and meals at external venues as per the itinerary, reports said. Passengers travelling with a companion can reportedly get a 50% discount on booking.
IRCTC, a subsidiary of the Indian Railways, reportedly handles its catering, tourism and online ticketing operations.
