Madrid (TAN): A tourism innovation hub will be opened among other activities by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) at the 39th International Tourism Trade Fair (Feria Internacional de Turismo; FITUR in Spanish) be held in the Spanish capital from January 23 to 27.
The global tourism innovation hub will highlight the UNWTO’s commitment to innovation in the sector.
The awards ceremony of the first UNWTO Tourism Startup Competition will be held in partnership with Globalia, a major tourism group in Spain and South America. The competition aims to identify new companies that will transform the tourism sector and the promote innovation ecosystems through tourism.
At the fair, the Tourism Investment and Business Forum for Africa (INVESTOUR) will hold its 10th edition.
The event brings together several tourism ministers of the region and investors to discuss the opportunities that the sector can offer the continent. Organized jointly by the UNWTO, FITUR and Casa África, this year’s sessions will be structured around two main themes: “Safe and Seamless Travel in Africa: Fostering Resilience and Risk Management in the Tourism Sector” and “Embracing Digital Transformation, Innovation and Promoting Niche Tourism Products”, UNWTO said in a statement.
The UNWTO is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.
UNWTO’s membership includes 158 countries, six Associate Members and over 500 Affiliate Members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations and local tourism authorities.
