The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is an annual event that attracts visitors from all over the world

Thiruvananthapuram (TAN): Now that monsoon is here, Kerala Tourism is gearing up for visitors from all over the world who come to experience the season and the cultural practices surrounding it.

In a move to draw international tourists, the tourism department took part in a travel fair in West Asia last month.

Kerala Tourism will organise the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, one of the state’s leading snake boat races, this August in Alapuzzha district.

Held on the second Saturday of August every year, the race attracts large crowds who come to watch 100 odd feet long ‘chundan vallom’ or snake boats fight it out in the waters of Punnamada Lake.

The Wayanad district in Kerala organises the monsoon carnival ‘Splash’ every July, which is regarded as the second biggest gathering in the tourism industry of the state. This year, the department plans to introduce bloggers from the Gulf Countries to the carnival as part of the ‘Destination Kerala’ programme.
