Cancun (TAN): Armed soldiers are patrolling the beaches of Cancun, the popular tourist destination in southeast Mexico after gunmen barged into a nightclub there and open fired leaving five dead and five more injured, media reports said.
The attack took place on Saturday at a nightclub called La Kuka in central Cancun. Reports said the attack has been attributed to drug cartel wars that have ravaged the country in recent years.

The state of Quintana Roo, where Cancun is located, has seen a spurt in gun violence with 774 people being killed last year as compared to 359 in 2017, reported Associated Press.
The spurt in violence, however, has not put off visitors.

A whopping 45 million international visitors, including 38 million from the United States alone, are expected to visit Mexico in 2019, an increase of 6 per cent from the previous year, said The Sun.
