(TAN): Singapore Airlines (SIA) has extended the cancellation of its flights until the end of June amid global travel restrictions caused by COVID-19, reports said.
The move came after the carrier recently said it would keep its flight operations suspended until May-end, as per reports.
According to reports, the initial round of cancellation were announced in late March, when the company said it would make a 96% cut in the combined capacity of SIA and SilkAir, its regional arm.

“SIA and SilkAir will continue to adjust our services in response to the Covid-19 outbreak,” the airline was quoted by Business Traveller as saying.
SIA reportedly said it will continue to fly to just 15 cities, including Los Angeles in the United States, Frankfurt, London and Zurich in Europe, Sydney, Australia, and Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Tokyo, until the end of June.
The airline also raised the frequency of flights to some destinations – while Bangkok got only three flights in April, 14 flights will be deployed for the Thai capital next month, a report said.
SIA said customers whose flights were cancelled by either of the airlines will enjoy the full value of the unused part of their tickets as flights credits, as per reports. The credit will reportedly be valid until June 30, 2021.
Once their new travel plans have been decided upon, customers are required to go to the airline’s website to submit their rebook requests, reports said. Then they must fill out the COVID-19 assistance request form to get their flight credit, as per reports. Customers who booked their tickets through travel agencies should reportedly contact their agent for help.
The airline will offer complimentary rebooking for all SIA and SilkAir tickets purchased between March 5 and June 30, although fare differences will apply, reports said.
Further, customers who retain their tickets as flight credits will reportedly be given bonus flight credits while rebooking their trips. Their bonus flight credits will reportedly depend upon the cabin class they were initially booked on.
