(TAN): Palau, the archipelago nation in Micronesia, has become the first country to change its immigration policies so that they benefit the climate.
According to a report in Euronews, visitors are currently required to sign an environmental pledge when they arrive, which asks them to act in an “ecologically and culturally responsible way” during their stay.
The country, which comprises more than 500 islands, is considered a top marine tourism destination because of its natural beauty and pristine seas.
Visitors to Palau will now have this pledge stamped on their passport.
A significant 25% of Palau landmass lies less than 10 metres above sea level, making the country extremely vulnerable to rising sea levels caused by climate change.
More than 89,000 international tourists visited Palau in 2019.
