(TAN): The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting sustainable and responsible tourism with its “Amazing Organic Trip” initiative. In collaboration with partners such as the Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association (TEATA), Thai Organic Consumer Association (TOCA), SiamRise Travel, FIND FOLK, and Golfdigg, as well as local tourism communities, the project aims to intertwine eco-conscious travel and organic experiences.
TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn emphasized the significance of integrating sustainable practices into tourism. “The Amazing Organic Trip project forms part of our plan to integrate sustainable tourism and underline the importance of travel responsibly in the traveller’s journey through community-based tourism,” he said.

Launched initially in Chiang Mai and Phuket, the “Amazing Organic Trip” routes are tailor-made to showcase the marriage of agriculture and tourism, two pillars of Thailand’s economy. In Chiang Mai, tourists are introduced to the Mae Tha Community in Mae On District, where generations have practiced organic farming. Visitors learn about their organic agricultural techniques and the community’s role in supplying organic produce to local businesses.
Additionally, the Chiang Mai trip offers cooking classes featuring locally-sourced ingredients, including a unique “Chef’s Table with the PM2.5 Reduction Menu.” This menu highlights dishes like grilled fish with local vegetables, fish-based chili paste, and organic sweet potatoes.
Phuket’s “Amazing Organic Trip” revolves around communities like Ban Bang Rong and Mai Khao, as well as Phuket’s Old Town. Travellers are educated about organic agriculture, immerse in the conservation of local herbs, and experience activities like ‘sand spa’ therapy. A carbon-neutral walking tour through Phuket’s Old Town blends cultural exploration with cooking lessons, where tourists can savour dishes like grilled sea cicadas with kumquat and coconut milk curry with Dollfus’ octopus.

Yuthasak emphasized the environmental impact of these trips. “Through organic trips in Chiang Mai and Phuket, tourists can play a part in helping reduce personal carbon footprint,” he stated. The walking tour in Phuket’s Old Town is particularly highlighted as a carbon-neutral tourism activity.
Moreover, the emphasis on organic produce and locally-sourced ingredients also contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases associated with transportation and imports. As tourists opt for food rooted in organic and local origins, they inadvertently support sustainable practices.
