Istanbul (TAN): Backpackers visiting Turkey tend to spend more than the average tourist, says Daily Sabah citing a research.
Young people backpacking through the country, which sits halfway between Europe and Asia, tend to stay longer and eventually end up spending more than the average tourist.
According to the report, the average backpacker stay in Turkey for 11.5 days with six of them in the capital Istanbul. This is much higher as compared to the average length of all foreign tourists’ stay, which is 4.3 days.

Backpackers “spend an average of USD 972 per person… almost USD 300 more than the average tourist”.
Visitors in this category mainly come from France and Germany in Europe, US, Australia and New Zealand. Of them 56 per cent are women and nearly 75 per cent under 30 years of age.
Apart from Istanbul, backpackers in Turkey prefer to visit destinations such as Anatalya, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Gallipoli and Ephesus, the report added.
