Araucania, Chile (TAN): Chile’s Samadhi Eco Resort has become the first of its kind in the country to accomplish EarthCheck Bronze Benchmarked and the country’s first to be a part of Pack for a Purpose.
EarthCheck is an environmental certification and benchmarking programme for the travel and tourism industry that uses a science-based approach to help travel and tourism organisations increase efficiencies, and minimise environmental footprint.
Pack for a Purpose, on the other hand, is an initiative that allows world travellers to give back to the communities they visit. Travellers pack light so that they can use the available space to carry supplies to partcipating communities.

The low-impact eco-tourism project was started by two friends passionate about sustainability.
“We are motivated to live sustainably, and achieving EarthCheck Bronze Benchmarked showcases our dedication and drive to make it a reality. EarthCheck has the guidance and resources to support our initiatives, and we are very proud to be a part of them,” co-owner of Samadhi Eco Resort Adnan Reguieg said.
The other co-owner Philippe Desruelles added: “The thing is, it’s not just about us. It’s about life, the future for all children, and living in peace. You cannot do that without respect – respect for others and respect for all that is around you.”

The eco resort offers activities to guests who volunteer to conserve and work for the welfare of local communities and natural landscapes in Chile. While students can visit the resort to take a class on organic farming, guests from the resort help at local schools.
“I would like to congratulate the dedicated team at Samadhi Eco Resort which is the foremost advocate in the region and a valued member of a global group of tourism enterprises that dare to make a difference. By working with EarthCheck, Samadhi Eco Resort joins industry leaders who are making positive changes to reduce their environmental and social impact and taking meaningful steps towards resolving some of the very real issues that face the planet,” Stewart Moore, Chief Executive Officer and founder, EarthCheck, said.
According to Senior Management at Samadhi Eco Resort, Samantha Reguieg, the resort symbolises sustainability and can upgrade its approaches with the help of EarthCheck.

“Throughout this sustainable journey, EarthCheck has been my lifeline while constructing all the policies, procedures and trainings for Samadhi. EarthCheck’s constant support and resources are phenomenal, and we truly would never have been at this point – nor this level – without them. We are super excited to continue with the certification process, as it fully supports our passion to constantly learn and better ourselves,” she added.
