(TAN): Several popular tourist destinations in Cork have decided to close temporarily as Storm Ellen inches towards Ireland.
The Irish Meteorological Service has issues a status red warning for Cork.
The worst weather owing to Storm Ellen will be between 2100 and midnight on August 19 with wind speeds of up to 120kmph expected.
Tourist attractions such as Fota Wildlife Park and Spike Island will be closed to visitors on August 20 because of Storm Ellen.
“Please Note we will be closed Thursday, August 20th, due to the predicted extreme weather of #StormEllen,” Fota Wildlife Park stated. “We are in the process of contacting directly all bookings for this date, if you booked to visit the park for this date please stand by for a direct contact update.”
Spike Island said it would be closed on August 20 and all bookings will be refunded.
“Spike island will be closed Thursday 20th August due to #StormEllen. Our apologies, your safety is our number 1 priority. All bookings will be automatically refunded within 5 days. You may rebook via the website for a day that suits you,” it said.
Cork features architecturally notable buildings from the Medieval to Modern periods and attracts a significant number of tourists.
