(TAN): All guests and employees at Maldives’ Kuredu Island Resort & Spa have been put under quarantine after two of its staff members tested positive for the coronavirus, reports said.

Located on the northern reef of Lhaviyani Atoll, the luxury resort has been locked down after the first cases of the infection on the Indian Ocean group of islands were identified last weekend, as per reports.

Authorities reportedly decided to put the entire resort in isolation as a precaution to ensure safety of all guests and staff. A statement on the resort’s website urged them to “remain on the island and follow advice and guidance of the Maldives Health Protection Agency and the Ministry of Tourism”.

“The temporary restrictive measures will continue until such time that the authorities release the island from its quarantine period. At this time there will be no flight in or out of the island. The island is well stocked with the essentials and we are confident in the care that will be provided to all,” it added.

According to reports, the two employees had come into contact with an Italian guest who was found to be infected upon his return to Italy. The two employees, now in isolation, are being treated, reports said.

Tourism Minister of Maldives, Ali Waheed, reportedly said every person who had contact with the two infected staff members during their stay are in isolation and will be observed for the next couple of weeks.
