(TAN): Venice has decided to push back its proposed tourist tax until 2022 in light of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, media reports said.
City Councillor Michele Zuin said, “In light of the current situation, linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to make a big gesture to help encourage the return of tourists.”
The plan was to have visitors pay EUR 3–10 (USd 3.6–12.1) as tourist tax even if they are on a day trip to Venice.

The idea behind this was to pass on the benefits of tourism to the local economy. The tax was primarily being implemented with day-trippers in mind who contribute to the city’s overcrowding but do not usually spend in terms of hotel and restaurant costs.
Venice is one of the most-visited cities on the planet.
