Fontvieille (TAN): Monaco-based Silversea Cruises’s ‘Silver Origin’, scheduled to take guests to the Galapagos Islands from the summer of 2020, is not just big on luxury but also on environmental consciousness.

As the cruise line’s ‘first ever destination-specific ship’, Silver Origin happens to be ‘one of the most environmentally friendly cruise ships ever and designed entirely with these unique islands in mind’.

Designed with cutting-edge technology, the ship will feature a dynamic positioning system which will enable it to automatically sustain position to protect the sea floor. The ship will cut down on single-use plastic bottles by installing fresh water purification systems in each suite.

“Ever since the early planning phases, every decision on Silver Origin has been made to strengthen the connection between our guests and this spectacular, unique destination,” he added.

Silver Origin will offer an array of experiences, led by the National Park of the Galapagos-certified Silversea Expedition Team, to guests ashore. Guests will also be introduced to Ecuadorian culture through lectures, videos, scientific information, and the region’s local cuisine.

The interiors of the ship borrow from the Galapagos’ unique natural environment to provide a feeling of consistency to guests, while also staying true to the Italian elegance typical of Silversea’s fleet of intimate ships, the company said.

The space will feature an interactive digital wall for guests to engage in and learn more about the Islands’ history, wildlife, and landscapes. Guests will also be able to unwind at the ship’s ‘Explorer Lounge’ and ‘Observation Lounge’.
