Houston (TAN): German transportation company FlixBus is coming to southern United States to serve Houston and San Antonio, starting March 14 this year, the company said in a statement.
The company, which already has a presence in California, Arizona, and Nevada states, will now expand to serve the Gulf Coast region of the country.
FlixBus will operate from Houston and San Antonio in Texas, New Orleans and Baton Rouge in Louisiana, and Biloxi in Mississippi. More cities in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas will be added to the network in the coming months.
Managing Director of FlixBus United States Pierre Gourdain said: “We are excited to offer a new way to travel for those living in the southern US and those visiting.”

“Our goal is to provide convenient transportation and encourage people to park their cars. We’ve already started a trend on the West Coast and created a new market for bus travel, with over 65 percent of FlixBus USA travelers having never taken a long-distance bus – we are ready to do this in the south where car is king,” he added.
While FlixBus will handle technology development, network planning, yield management, operations control and marketing, it will partner with charter firms Texas-based AJL International and Wynne Transportation, Louisiana Motor Coach, and Massachusetts-based Star Shuttle to handle the daily operations of the buses for the company’s southern routes.
FlixBus claims to have created over 7,000 jobs globally for local bus drivers.
“Louisiana Motor Coach is proud to be the partner selected to provide state-of-the-art daily coach service in the deep south. We couldn’t be more thrilled at this fantastic opportunity for further growth,” said Louis Sanders, Vice President of Louisiana Motor Coach.
FlixBus, in an effort to come across as a student-friendly option, has planned stops near Rice University, Louisiana State University and near the University of Texas at San Antonio downtown campus.
Tickets start at USD 0.99 and are already on sale.
