41 killed in Aeroflot fire, say investigators

Moscow (TAN): At least 41 people have been killed in the Aeroflot accident on Sunday evening which involved a plane engulfed in flames making a dramatic emergency landing at Sheremetyevo Airport here, official investigators said.

“There were 78 people including crew members on board the plane,” the probe committee said in a statement. “According to the updated info which the investigation has as of now, 37 people survived.”

Eleven more people have been injured.

Late on Sunday, videos circulating on social media showed the aircraft, with its rear engulfed in fire and black smoke landing at the airport. 

Visuals show people leaving the aircraft via inflatable slides from the front doors shortly after it came to a stop.

The Aeroflot flight SU1492 aircraft was headed to Murmansk in northwestern Russia.

According to aircraft tracking website Flghtradar24, the Russia-made aircraft managed to land on its second attempt.
