(TAN): North Korea’s Yangdok spa resort started operating for local visitors earlier this week, according to reports.
Located in the country’s South Pyongan Province, the spa resort is looking to draw more overseas tourists, as per reports.
Its construction was reportedly completed last month, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visiting the spa resort several times last year to emphasise his efforts in building a competitive tourism industry.

He was present during its opening ceremony in December, and applauded his soldiers for building a “miracle and prefect edifice” to help propel the ruling party’s initiatives in guiding people to modern civilisation, reports said.
The resort was dubbed by Kim as a show of “steady development and prosperity” accomplished by North Korea in the face of “the worst adversity”, a report said.
According to reports, visitors will be able to make bookings at the Yangdok Hot Springs and Culture Resort through Pyongyang Koryo International Travel Company.

“For the convenience of the guests who will spend joyful days… at the resort, our travel company is operating reservations and general guide service. We have started the reservations…,” a section head at the company, Kim Jong Nam, was quoted by NK News as saying.
Apart from offering indoor and outdoor spas, the resort will feature ski slopes, a horse-riding course, a billiard hall, a screen golf studio, a gym and machines for mini basketball games, reports said.
North Korea’s Masikryong Ski Resort started welcoming guests for this year earlier this week, as per reports.

The ski resort, which reportedly opened in December 2013, is situated on the outskirts of the eastern city of Wonsan, in Kangwon province. Spanning an area of 5.4 square miles, the ski resort is home to 10 slopes, reports said.
