(TAN): Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) has recently released #SaveOurSpots GIFs on Instagram to promote sustainable tourism in the country, reports said.

Instagram is an American social networking platform. GIFs, on the other hand, are a format for image files that supports both animated and static images.

The artworks reportedly include the #SaveOurSpots frame, daily Filipino conversation lines, and responsible tourist badge, among others to motivate domestic tourists to take care of their surroundings while travelling across the country.

Instagrammers can also use geological tagging while posting about local destinations such as Boracay Island, Anilao in Batangas, Baguio City, Bohol, Coron in Palawan, Donsol in Sorsogon, La Union, Luneta or Rizal Park, Panglao Island, Puerto Galera, Sagada in Mountain Province, Siargao and Vigan in Ilocos Sur, according to reports.

To participate, travellers must click on the GIF button on Instagram Stories and type in “sustainable tourism,” following which they will be able to choose the appropriate GIF for the story before posting it, reports said.

Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Secretary of DOT reportedly said the GIFs will help preserve Philippines’ local tourist attractions.

“We first rolled out this campaign by showing simple yet impactful acts towards environmentalism and patriotism, by respecting cultures and managing wastes. This time around, we are encouraging travellers to promote and preserve our local tourist spots,” Romulo-Puyat was quoted by Cosmopolitan as saying.

The DOT is also working with Quezon City’s local government to support the sustainable development of the Quezon Memorial Circle into a more sustainable national park to draw both local and international tourists. Located on the Guadalupe Plateau, northeast of Manila, Quezon City shelters the Quezon Memorial Circle, a national park and reportedly the main park of the city.

DOT Secretary Puyat discussed the plans with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“It is vital that DOT support the vision of Quezon City to preserve its heritage park. The site is home to many significant monuments, markers, museums and gardens, including the mausoleum containing the remains of President Manuel L Quezon, that remind visitors of the city’s rich history,” Puyat said.
