(TAN): Workers at a tourist camp beside the Mara river in Kenya forced migrating wildebeest to change their course, causing a stampede and killing an unknown number of animals. Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Najib Balala has said efforts are on to remove the camp so that the wildebeest migration can take place without hurdles.
Sharing the video on Twitter, Balala said, “I have discussed with Narok County Governor @SamuelTunai, about the camp built beside the Mara River, blocking the Wildebeest crossing. Its very disturbing and we expect the Governor to take action and have the camp removed!”
September is a peak month for the wildebeest migration.
In the video, a huge herd of wildebeests is seen crossing the Mara river, only to have their path obstructed by a camp on the other bank.

Workers are then seen chasing away the animals forcing them to retreat and change their course. Several animals are said to have drowned.
The wildebeest migration is East Africa’s biggest tourist draw and one of Unesco’s Wonders of the World.
