(TAN): Travel blogger Rachel Jones, who ran the Hippie in Heels blog, died of a sudden heart attack, a post by her family on the blog has revealed.
Followers of the popular blog received a rude shock on May 12 when a post by her family on the Facebook page had said that she had passed away. However, they had not clarified the cause of her sudden death.
In the latest post on June 21, the family has said: “We understand there’s been some discussion on the cause of Rachel’s passing and we’d like to dispel any rumours.”

“The medical examiner diagnosed Rachel’s cause of death as a heart disease known as chronic myocarditis, which resulted in a sudden heart attack. We now understand that her condition had been undiagnosed and therefore untreated, but likely developed from multiple infections and viruses over the years,” it said.
The family intends to continue running the blog and over the next weeks, will publish several posts written by Rachel that she intended to publish.
“These posts may be challenging to read, but we want to honour the effort that Rachel made and the stories she wanted to tell,” the post says.

On the long-term future of the blog, the post says: “Ben, Sam, Travis & Rachel’s parents are exploring options to keep the blog going in Rachel’s memory. This is a significant challenge as Hippie in Heels’ authenticity came from Rachel, her thoughts, her feelings, her opinions, and her happiness from the life she shared with Ben, Omni, Shanti, & KitKat – and no amount of creativity and effort can recreate her uniqueness. We want to keep her fearless spirit and love of travel alive, and we hope Hippie in Heels will continue to inspire and support travellers around the world as they plan their next adventure.”
Hi Ben and family, I can’t tell how sorry I am to hear of Rachel’s death. It’s hard to believe. I saw you two on House Hunters and said to myself “this couple is so special, both so beautiful inside and out”. I knew that young couples like you will help change this heavy 3-d planet to a lighter density filled with love and wisdom. I saw the magic between you too. Of course you will see each other again on the upper plains. Ben I have no words just that your time together with Rachel was filled with light. Thank you also for your work with the coral reefs that have been so polluted and destroyed like so much of our beloved planet.
I can’t image the pain of her parents for losing a child is one of the hardest situations we humans have to face. Please know that your parenting skills help create a very special person.
Was Rachel’s biological mom Becky Maranto?
This whole thing was so strange. I remember reading about this when it happened 2 years ago. She went on a bachlorette party weekend and died, and at first they were saying there would be no discussion of how she died, because the family wanted it that way. Then they finally said she had an asthma attack and that killed her. Then rumors swirled of a drug overdose for months, now we get this report that she died of a heart attack. I find the whole thing strange. Why did the story keep changing?
