Mexico City (TAN): The National Equality Media Association (NEMA), United States-based nonprofit publisher organisation serving the LGBTQ media, will hold its annual conference in Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta between October 27 and 30.

It will be the first time that member LGBTQ publishers and owners will assemble outside the United States to deliberate on the issues facing LGBTQ media.

Puerto Vallarta, located in Mexico’s Jalisco state, has become a famed LGBTQ vacation destination as it offers accommodations, beaches, nightlife and other activities, and a community that are all LGBTQ-friendly. The city was the country’s first International Gay Lesbian Travel Association member in 2014 and the Mexico’s first city to be granted Gay Travel Approved status by GayTravel.com, reports said.

“We are very excited to be able to bring publishers and owners together to discuss new and emerging business strategies that will help LGBT publications survive and thrive in an increasingly challenging publishing environment,” President of NEMA, D.J. Doran said.

Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa and The Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta, that have served the LGBTQ community for years, will be the host hotels for the conference, NEMA said. In fact, Marriott had received LGBTQ certification from the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat and Talento Consultores in 2017.

“As part of Marriott International, the world’s favorite travel company and recognized leader in the hotel industry on topics of diversity and inclusion, we are proud to show our support to the LGBTQ community and to host the 2019 NEMA conference, welcoming LGBTQ publishers from all over the United States,” said David Gauna, General Manager of Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa and Area General Manager for Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita and Guadalajara.

Public Relations Director for the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board, Luis Villaseñor, worked with the NEMA conference committee to make Puerto Vallarta the host city of the conference. He said visitors will not just see how special the city is, but will also realise how hospitable it is towards the LGBTQ community.

“The town has established itself as a premier LGBTQ travel destination, and we are proud to showcase that,” he added.

Bob Witeck, President of Washington, D. C.-based communications company Witeck Communications will speak on the significance of legacy, local LGBTQ publications and their impact on the communities which they serve at the conference. Witeck Communications is the longest established LGBTQ-owned business enterprise certified by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce. There will be other speakers too.
