Zagreb (TAN): Croatian energy company Hrvatska elektroprivreda (HEP) has unveiled five new charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) at tourist sites in Dalmatia.

According to reports, the installation of the chargers in towns and along highways is part of HEP’s ELEN network which allows electric car owners from other European countries to get uninterrupted access to all tourist destinations in the country, thereby boosting Croatia’s tourism.

The new chargers were installed in locations along the country’s coast on Drevnik, Makarska, Ploce, and Jelsa and Stari Grad on the island of Hvar.

HEP reportedly installed 16 EV chargers along motorways last month, which now makes it possible for electric car owners and drivers to travel from Croatia’s borders with Slovenia and Hungary to the Adriatic Sea, linking the country with the EV charger network within the Trans-European Transport Network.

HEP has reportedly fitted over 80 ELEN public e-chargers across the country so far, and plans to add more so that the total number of EV charging points crosses 100.

While the project is still progressing, the charging stations on the ELEN network will reportedly not charge any fee from car owners. However, charging at these stations require a standardised contactless card.
