Air India plans 400 new flights in the next six months

(IBNS): Air India Friday announced its intention to increase its weekly flight capacity by more than 400 on both domestic and international routes by March 2024, as part of its winter schedule for 2023, the Tata Group-owned airline said.

In a statement released on Friday, the airline revealed plans to bolster its domestic network with the addition of over 200 weekly flights in the next six months, facilitated by the anticipated delivery of new aircraft.

These flights will serve various routes, connecting major Indian cities like Mumbai and Delhi.

On international routes, Air India aims to operate more than 200 weekly flights, with over 80 of them already in operation.

The airline also intends to introduce four new international destinations, with details to be disclosed at a later date.

The airline has increased the number of weekly flights by 25 times in both directions on eight international routes connecting various points in Southeast Asia, the United States, and Europe with the commencement of the Winter Schedule 2023.

The weekly frequencies on the following routes have been adjusted:

Mumbai-Singapore: Increased from 7 times to 13 times

Delhi-Bangkok: Increased from 7 times to 14 times

Delhi-Dhaka: Increased from 7 times to 12 times

Delhi-Newark (New Jersey): Increased from 3 times to 4 times

Delhi-San Francisco: Increased from 10 times to 11 times

Delhi-Washington DC: Increased from 3 times to 4 times

Commenting on the development, Campbell Wilson, chief executive officer and managing director of Air India, said, “While modernising our fleet and introducing new products and services is a top priority in Air India’s ongoing transformation journey, we are equally focused on densifying and expanding our route network to capture the rapidly growing demand in the market. The next few months are exciting for Air India and our guests, indeed.”

The airline has commenced operations on four new routes: Bengaluru-Singapore, Kochi-Doha, Kolkata-Bangkok, and Mumbai-Melbourne.

Over the period leading up to March 2024, the airline anticipates the addition of more than 30 aircraft, comprising both widebody and narrowbody types, including six A350s, four B777s, and 20 A320neos to its fleet.
