Sepang (TAN): Malaysia-based airline AirAsia will operate daily nonstop flights between the states of Penang and Melaka from July 1, 2019.
Known for its rich legacy, Melaka is one of the sought-after destinations for travellers visiting the country. It was added to UNESCO’s heritage sites in 2008.
The new flight could push tourism and help the state government in its endeavour to atrract 20 million travellers this year.
“With its UNESCO world heritage listing and rich history, Melaka is one of the number one places to visit in Malaysia. This new route further strengthens our tourism footprint in Malaysia, providing more options for international visitors to travel between the states of Penang and Melaka,” said Riad Asmat, Chief Executive Officer at AirAsia Malaysia.

“We look forward to continuing our work to explore even more new routes to Melaka from other parts of our Asean network,” he added.
As per the schedule, flight AK 6284 will depart Penang daily at 1320 hours, landing in Melaka at 1425 hours. The return flight AK 6285 will take off from Melaka daily at 1450 hours, and reach Penang at 1600 hours.
AirAsia is offering free seats or all-in fares starting at MYR 12 (member-only fares for one-way travel) to celebrate the launch. Non-member fares start from MYR 17 for one direction including taxes.

The deal is valid for booking until April 21, 2019, and for travel between July 1, 2019 and June 2, 2020.
