(TAN): Airbnb will fire 25% of its staff, the home sharing platform’s Co-Founder and CEO Brian Chesky said in a note to employees on May 5.

This translates to 1,900 of the firm’s 7,500 employees. The decision comes as the tourism industry has emerged as one of the worst-hit sectors in the COVID-19 crisis.

“These decisions are not a reflection of the work from people on these teams, and it does not mean everyone on these teams will be leaving us,” Chesky said.

“Teams across all of Airbnb will be impacted. Many teams will be reduced in size,” he added.
