Washington, D. C. (TAN): Amtrak will introduce a new direct service Acela Nonstop between here and New York City in the United States starting September 23.

The train, slated to run between Washington Union Station in the country’s capital and New York Penn Station, will initially be available only on weekdays with one southbound and northbound train each per day. “The new Acela Nonstop service will have you halfway to your New York City or DC destination in the time it would take you to board a flight. This new service will offer an ideal solution for travelers who want to save time and travel between city center DC and New York,” Amtrak President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Anderson said.

Amtrak will announce the new amenities which are now being finalised ‘closer to the launch date’, the company said. Existing services on the present Acela train such as the Quiet Car, Café Car and First Class services will continue to be offered on Acela Nonstop.

The new train will be launched ahead of the unveiling of the new next-generation Acela trainsets in 2021. The new trainsets that will start testing in late 2019 and into 2020, are currently being assembled in Alstom’s facility in Hornell, New York. They could run between Washington and New York, and New York and Boston.
