Palma (TAN): A anti-tourism outfit in Spain has vandalised tourists’ rental cars in an effort to discourage visitors coming to the island of Mallorca, also known as Majorca, located in the Mediterranean Sea.
The youth organisation, Arran, shared a video on Monday that showed its activists going out at night and vandalising rental cars.
“More than 100,000 tourist rental cars on the island (of) #Mallorca: saturation, unsustainability, pollution and turn the city into a tourist showcase. The young people went to (on) the offensive! #TurismeMassiuVsVeïnes,” the tweet accompanying the video said in Catalan.

Set to the tune of Mungo Jerry’s “In the Summertime”, the video started with a message in Catalan claiming there were more than 100,000 rental cars for tourists in Mallorca alone.
Police are investigating the incident, media reports said.
Ramon Bauza, former head of government for the Balearic Islands, of which Mallorca is a part, has retweeted Arran’s video on Twitter, and made an effort to make tourists feel welcome despite the protests.

He said: “Many thanks to the tourists who use rental cars to visit the paradise in which we live, revitalize our economy, enjoy our country through our islands and tell about the wonders we have in the Balearic Islands,” Bauza wrote. “WELCOME!”
