Argentine man who went missing off Rio beach on Thursday still untraceable

Rio de Janeiro (TAN): Search is still on for a 43-year-old tourist from Argentina who disappeared while on a swim at Praia do Pepê in the Barra da Tijuca area on Thursday, The Rio Times reported.

After a woman accompanying Juan Pablo Riba, the missing man, reported the matter to the authorities, a rescue operation including divers and drones, had been launched.

The woman, who has not been identified, said a series of waves had hit the two when they had gone for a swim. While she was thrown towards the beach, Riba drifted away from the shore.

The search operation continued amid bad weather and rough seas on Thursday and Friday. 

People were advised to avoid going into the sea for a swim and the fishing community was advised against venturing out into the sea as in rained heavily.
