Miami (TAN): United States-based cruise company Carnival Cruise Line will collaborate with Florida-based nonprofit organisation Clean the World to recycle around 40 tons of discarded soap into new soap bars each year, which will then be distributed to communities in need in different parts of the world.
Clean the World conducts emergency relief, hygiene and sanitation programmes, while also recycling soap and hygiene amenities from hotels and travel partners.
Carnival will accumulate discarded soap from guest and crew rooms and send it to a Clean the World recycling centre for the soap to be sanitised and made into new bars. The programme will enable Carnival and Clean the World to distribute over 400,000 soap bars to people around the world each year.

“We’re proud and honored to be the first large-scale cruise line to partner with Clean the World, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of those in underprivileged communities throughout the world,” President of Carnival Cruise Line Christine Duffy said.
She added: “Carnival guests use more than three million bars of soap each year. With this partnership, we’ll positively impact the lives of so many people who will have access to a basic hygiene product that so many of us take for granted.”
One of Carnival’s sustainability initiatives, the programme is expected to be introduced across the company’s North American fleet by the end of this month.

Clean the World will be able to increase the scope of its recycling programme through this partnership.
“This incredible partnership with Carnival Cruise Line allows us to expand our outreach, putting more soap into the hands of people in need. We hope that this program will continue to grow in the future,” he added.
