Wild crocodiles under a highway bridge is a growing tourist attraction in Costa Rica

American crocodiles are able to walk on their four feet and not just slither.

San José (TAN): A bridge on Pacífica Fernández Oreamuno Highway, the main highway from the Costa Rica capital to the town of Jaco has become an unusual tourist attraction, says a CNN report.

As you pass by, you see groups of people on the bridge peering down. They are looking at wild crocodiles.

The bridge, located 121 km from the airport here, has come to be known as ‘crocodile bridge’.

Several crocodiles are seen sunning under the highway bridge on most days. Some of these are as large as 13 feet, says the report, adding that these American crocodiles with green-grey skin are able to walk on their four feet and not just use them to drag their body along.

With a people coming here regularly, some vendors have set up shop in the area selling stuffed crocodiles and other props. A crocodile safari boat is also available for the particularly brave souls.

Since the crowds are still not significant the authorities have not put up any signage or tourism-related facilities at the site. But that situation may not be too far away, the report added.

Till now, there are no accommodation facilities in the area. A few eateries are present.
