Paris (TAN): The iconic Eiffel Tower in the French capital turned off its lights on Sunday midnight to pay respects to the victims in the Sri Lanka attacks.
Serial blasts at eight places, including hotels and churches, left hundreds dead and even more injured in the island nation.
Late on Sunday evening, the official Eiffel Tower handle on Twitter tweeted: “Tonight, from 12:00 am, I will turn my lights off to pay tribute to the victims of the Sri Lanka attacks.”

Paris mayor Anne Hidalco had also posted in French: “After the attacks that hit the Christians and all the Sri Lankans on Sunday, we will turn off this Sunday night @LaTourEiffel at midnight to pay tribute to the victims. #SriLanka.”
In Sri Lanka, the authorities had blocked social media to stop the spreading of rumours and clamped a curfew all over the island from 1800 hours on Sunday to 0700 hours on Monday.
At least seven people have been arrested.
