Melbourne (TAN): The Bischoff Hotel in Australia’s western Tasmania has assisted its first customer who drove into the hotel to charge his electric vehicle, according to a report in theadvocate.com.au.
The hotel, located in Waratah off Australia’s south coast, reportedly installed charging stations earlier this year. The universal charger was installed with a support of AUD2500 from the state government’s Electric Vehicles ChargeSmart Grants – Destination Charging programme.

“Darren was our very first EV customer and possibly a first for Waratah. We were even treated to a test drive to experience the amazing performance and technology,” co-owner of the hotel Paul Ekman, who reportedly runs the hotel with his family, was quoted by the report as saying.
Darren Briggs, the first customer to use the charging station, reportedly arrived in his electric Hyundai Kona.
“The assistance we had from the Tasmanian Government will enable Waratah and the rest of Tasmania to become the ideal location for electric vehicle tourism and ownership,” he added.

According to an earlier report, Ekman had said the chargers would attract tourists to the town and the west coast, with motorists visiting businesses and tourist sites while their vehicles are charging.
“It’s not just us as a hotel that will benefit, it’s the town,” he was quoted by a report as saying.
