Perth (TAN): The ongoing first edition of the Perth Chung Wah Cultural Festival brings together arts, sports, film and activities for the kids in a family-friendly event that seeks to showcase the best of Chinese culture.
The festival, which started on May 12 and will continue will May 18, at Burswood Park, with the Swan River and the Perth city providing a spectacular backdrop to a week of cultural and business activities, is organized by the Chung Wah Association.

“The Perth Chung Wah Cultural Festival celebrates the Western Australian Chinese community’s cultural and sporting heritage and showcases Perth as an exciting and vibrant city,” said Western Australia tourism minister Paul Papalia.
Opening with dragon boats thundering down the river in a gala celebration, the event is an opportunity to see some of Western Australia’s top dragon boat competitors in action in one of the world’s fastest growing sports.
As part of the festival, Burswood Park has been transformed into a buzzing marketplace, with delicious Chinese cuisine, performances, cultural demonstrations and kids’ activities – including kite flying, lantern making and lion dancing – on offer for visitors.

Each evening, the Golden Koala Film Festival shows a range of contemporary Chinese cinema at the Movies by Burswood outdoor cinema, with talks by international film directors.
The festival finale on Saturday, May 18, will include spectacular displays of lanterns, lotus flower ceremony and fireworks.
